Little Rock Nine® Foundation Extends Scholarship Application Deadline

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas – March 02, 2009 – The historic Little Rock Nine® Foundation extends its legacy through its meaningful Scholarship and Mentorship Program. This opportunity is limited to the awarding of nine essay-winning high school students who apply before the deadline, exhibit leadership ability, possess high levels of motivation, overwhelmingly demonstrate being a difference-maker in their community, and meet all qualifying criteria.   The deadline for application for this truly once in a lifetime opportunity has been extended from the previously posted website deadline of January 31, 2009 to March 31, 2009 due to the Foundation’s sensitivity of current events and today’s economic difficulties.

This program effectively and uniquely couples mentorship with scholarship for the first two years of the recipient’s college or university enrollment. One of the main principles of the Little Rock Nine® Foundation program is that winning students in turn mentor other students in direct demonstration of continuing the cycle of giving back to preserve their community. All information regarding the application submission process and qualifications criteria of the Scholarship and Mentorship Program are available at www.littlerock9.org.

About the Little Rock Nine® Foundation

The Little Rock Nine® Foundation was created to promote the ideals of justice and equality of opportunity for all. Forged in the crucible of fierce opposition to the educational pursuits of nine young black children, the Foundation is dedicated to the proposition that racist ideology will not dictate educational policies and practices in the 21st Century.

The mission of the Little Rock Nine® Foundation is to provide direct financial support and a mentorship program for students to help them reach their educational goals. Further, it is the Foundation’s mission to encourage young people to take executive responsibility for their education, to step forward boldly and seize any available opportunity to expend awareness and understanding. The Foundation seeks to create a viable link between young leaders and those who offer support for their efforts.
